technical product info choose block pattern and color. blocks comply with astm standards for masonry units. consider vertical and horizontal spans and reinforcement relative to local codes. trestles blocks are designed to astm c90 standards for load-bearing concrete masonry units; though special detailing of system components should be considered. refer to ncma tek3-16a for details.

trestles nods to mid-century modern architecture in elevating the basic concrete block to a sophisticated colored designer screen option. hand-crafted with careful consistency, crisp casting with decorative openings and superior design in through-body color. commercially rated and suitable for interior and exterior environments.
1. the block trestles blocks are special screen block units with decorative openings. they can be used in both interior and exterior environments in applications such as sunscreens, room dividers, fences and curtain walls. often used in non-load- bearing structures. the blocks are designed to astm c90 & astm c140 testing standards for concrete masonry units; special detailing of system components are needed for loadbearing applications. reference ncma tek-16a for details in designing the vertical & horizontal spans of the walls. 2. handling + storage handle your consignment with care. trestles blocks will arrive in custom made crates, wrapped in plastic to protect in transit. inspect product carefully upon delivery. notify the manufacturer of any shipping damage or concerns immediately. do not install any material of concern, set aside for replacement. installed blocks are considered accepted. blocks kept in original crating is the best method for storage prior to installation. store crates indoors or cover to protect from elements. two crate maximum height. acclimate blocks to final installation. environment for 48 hours. ensure you have ordered ample overage. we recommend 20% min, depending on the complexity of the design.
3. mock-up considering you’ve landed on a block style, now you must consider your wall dimensions based on the application. non-loadbearing interior partitions for instance, may allow larger spans without reinforcement; local codes considerate. for exterior or seismic restrictive areas, refer to table 1 of the tek3-16a for vertical and horizontal spans considerate of allowable stress design (ASD) and assuming a running bond pattern. i.e. a wall with a known wind stress load of 15 psf would have a maximum span of 8’h x 12’ when captured within proper vertical and lateral supports. blend blocks from multiple crates to show tonal variations. mock-up should be grouted, cleaned and sealed. mock-up should be reviewed and accepted prior to full installation. 4. installation materials mortar must be incorporated. type n mortar is recommended for interior and exterior non-loadbearing screen walls. type s or n can also be considered in conditions where exposure & design variables warrant. refer to tek9-4a. sealer; drytreat stain-proof. 5. installation mock-up to test overall methodology of install, grout, clean/seal. reference ncma tek3-16a in calculating and detailing wall dimensions and structure. hand-set blocks with appropriate mortar / grout type per tek9-4a. blend blocks from several crates to enhance natural variation.

be diligent in removing any adhesive or grout from surface before drying. follow grout manufacturers application instructions. hand-scrub blocks to remove residue and allow to dry before sealing. if sealing is specified, we recommend drytreat stain-proof. apply sealer per manufacturer’s instructions. 6. reinforcement if your application requires reinforcement, refer to tek3-16a for considerations. grout for embedding steel. reinforcement in horizontal or vertical cells should comply with astmc476. if you have any questions, please contact our technical team: tech@concrete-collaborative.com
