trails concrete pavers are dimensionally accurate and can be simply mortar set, sand set or pedestal set in accordance with standard masonry practices depending on your project needs. once installed the surface should be thoroughly cleaned and then sealed with a quality penetrating sealer such as drytreat stain-proof. cleaning pads and sealer are available from concrete collaborative.

1. the material concrete pavers are similar to natural stone tiles (rectified/uncalibrated) to suit our stated caliber and size range which vary less in facial dimension than natural stone. edges are mechanically cut to achieve a more precise rectified dimension. pavers are not calibrated nor fully gauged, requiring system components and setting methods in accordance with ansi a108.1 classified as natural stone tile. tonal variation is inherent and to be expected and should blend like stone tile. 2. handling + storage handle your consignment with care. inspect product carefully upon arrival. store crates indoors or cover to protect from elements. two crate maximum height. acclimate pavers to final installation environment for 48 hours. 3. mock-up per tcna guidelines, prepare a complete installation mock-up of the paver in its final environment. blend pavers from multiple crates to show tonal variations. mock-up should be grouted (if required), wet-scrubbed and sealed. mock-up should be reviewed and accepted prior to full installation.

4. substrate preparation mortar set substrate to be leveled to 1/8’’ (3mm) over 10’ (3m). clean all adhesives, grease, dirt and other contaminates from substrate. slab/screed should be cured to 4 % moisture content–use tramex meter or similar to test waterproofing membrane should be used with slab on grade or where moisture is present. waterproofing membrane should be used with slab on grade or where moisture is present. always follow adhesive manufacturer’s preparation instructions. honor all control joints in substrate. sand set substrate to be compacted to 98% standard proctor density per astm d698. ensure base is dry, uniform and ready to support paver unit. do not proceed with installation until substrate is satisfactory. pedestal set substrate to be properly prepared for pedestal paving units. verify elevations, pedestal heights, unit size and joint placement before proceeding. account for additional load support where items are to be placed on top of deck.

5. installation mortar set use laticrete 254r platinum rapid or approved alternate. use laticrete 253 in heat over 95 degrees. back-butter each paver to ensure 100% coverage and adhesion. blend pavers from several crates to enhance natural variations. maintain a grout joint no less than 0.5% of long side of paver. grout pavers using quality sanded grout such as laticrete permacolor, an impregnating or grout release prior can help. be diligent in removing any adhesive or grout from surface before drying. also follow adhesive and grout manufacturer’s application instructions. protect floor with ramboard and masonite to prevent damage from site debris or staining. sand set spread the bedding evenly over the base. course the screed to a nominal 1” thickness. do not exceed 1 1/14” thickness. compact the sand bed. rake and re-screed. lay the precast paving unit on top of screed sand in the pattern as specified. use 1/8” spacers to maintain joint. check sand bed for deviations in elevation that exceed +/-3/8” (10mm) over 10’ (3m). any lipping > 1/8” should be addressed prior to vibration/compaction. cover paver with an isolation layer to prevent cracking when compacting. use low amplitude, high frequency plate vibrator to compact the pavers into the sand bed. maintain 1/4” (6mm) joints fill joints with polymeric sand per astm c144. mock-up for large format pavers sand set

pedestal set follow chosen pedestal manufacturer’s installation specifications. pedestals can be provided by concrete collaborative. use perimeter blocking to prevent any lateral movement. any weight over normal pedestal load should

thoroughly clean pavers, sweep and remove all residues or debris from paver surface. use pressure wash or masonry cleaner for more a thorough clean. for mortar set pavers, wet scrub using red htc pad. ensure pavers are clean and dry. apply quality impregnator sealer, like drytreat stain-proof or specified sealer, follow manufacturer’s instructions. 7. care + maintenance caring for your concrete pavers is a relatively simple process to incorporate into your maintenance routine. much like a natural stone your pavers can be rejuvenated with an abrasive wet-scrub and seal. our concrete pavers are made of naturally occurring raw materials and a such patina is expected with age. 8. down the road should water or liquid no longer bead-up on surface, additional sealer may need to be applied. reapply sealer per sealer manufacturer’s recommendations using a sealer-dampened micro-fiber towel. drytreat stain-proof is our recommended sealer and can be purchased directly or through concrete collaborative.
