establish expansion joint locations based on substrate and site conditions. install anti-fracture and or moisture barrier like laticrete hydroban, in consideration of substrate i.e., slab-on- grade, moisture prone environment, existing cracks and movement in substrate. 5. installation materials thin-set: laticrete 254 platinum rapid. grout: laticrete permacolor sanded grout. cleaning pad: htc twister white. sealer: prosoco polishguard. special consideration for walls or wet areas. 6. installation use laticrete 254 platinum rapid thin-set or approved equivalent. use laticrete 4xlt rapid medium-set or approved equivalent for large format tile or as required. follow adhesive manufacturer’s recommendations. blend tiles from different crates to enhance natural tone and character. back-butter tile to ensure 100% adhesive coverage. use 1/2”- 3/4” notched trowel. hand-set tile, avoid using mallets and excessive force. maintain grout joint of 0.5 % of the longest tile edge, no less than 1/8”. place expansion joints spaced at 15’ in each direction. place flexible expansion joints at all perimeters walls and columns. honor all substrate expansion and control joints in tile finish. refer to tcna guidelines as frequency of movement joints may increase based on site conditions. protect tile surface avoid leaving adhesive, tape, wet sponges or buckets that can stain tile surface.

be diligent in removing any adhesive from surface before drying. protect installation adequately with ramboard and/or masonite. 7. grout grout tiles using laticrete permacolor sanded grout. grout joints are a direct function of ansi minimums for uncalibrated natural stone tiles specific to installation pattern and natural warpage to reduce floor lippage. grout joint should be at least 0.5% of the longest edge and considerate of expected curvature. the grout joint should not be less than 1/16” eg 12”x24”x5/8” tile - joint min ⅛” + longest edge (24” x -.05 (curvature factor) = (3/32) = (⅛”+3/32”) = 7/32” tiles can be pre-sealed with an impregnating sealer to aid in grout release. float the whole tile surface, not just the grout joints. follow grout manufacturer’s recommendtions. 8. wet-scrub ensure grout is fully cured prior to wet- scrubbing. ensure tile is cleaned, free of all dust and debris. wet-scrub with floor-machine using htc twister white pad. use ample clean warm water. work in small + manageable sections. proper wet-scrubbing will create a slurry. be diligent removing all slurry water. use a shop-vac. if needed. follow with a clean mop. for smaller areas and vertical surfaces, an or- bital hand-sander with a small cut-out of htc twister white pad can be used. the wet-scrub process is transformative in im- proving the overall floor finish as well as preparing for sealer. re-apply floor protection during construction.
